The Mid-Autumn Festival is a day for the reunion of the Chinese people. The Fisheries Agency and the Keelung Fishermen’s Association specially took the opportunity of the Mid-Autumn Festival’s eve to organize caring activities such as holding a singing contest, basic life-saving skills (BLS) training, environmental protection announcement, and free hair-cut service at the Badouzi Fishing Port on this (7th) day during the period of fishing boats entering the port for replenishment. Inviting foreign crew members to experience the joyful atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and improve the safety proficiency of foreign crew members to ensure operational safety.

The Fisheries Agency explained that if a fishing vessel encounters a disaster at sea, the rescue is much more difficult than on land. In order to grasp the golden window of rescue time, the professional team of the Neihu Tri-service General Hospital is specially invited to teach basic life-saving techniques and train foreign crew members to learn first-aid skills. When the life of others is in danger, these skills enable foreign crew members to give first aid measures as soon as possible to save precious lives. At the same time, a singing contest was held to allow foreign crew members to show their singing skills and sing on stage to relieve work pressure, and the lucky draw activities made the atmosphere more enthusiastic.

The Fisheries Agency also sent out pomelo for the occasion to let foreign crew members experience the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival culture in our country, and took this opportunity to publicize the rights and interests of foreign crew members and complaint channels to ensure the rights and interests of foreign crew members.

Lastly, the Fisheries Agency stated that foreign crew members have been the main labor force in our country's fishery for many years, and have become an indispensable and important working partner of our country's fishery. In the future, the Fisheries Agency will continue to care for foreign crew members who come to work in Taiwan, and improve the professional knowledge and welfare of foreign crew members, making our country's fishery a sustainable operation.
